About this adventure

A sea-island nature preserve north of Jacksonville that is mainly for nature study, bird-watching and photography. A short trail leads to Boneyard Beach, known for the salt-washed skeletons of live oak and cedar trees on the sand. Blackrock, Big Pine, Old Kings Highway and Jones Cut trails reach the shoreline, the marsh and the maritime forest, and picnic pavilions sit on the bluffs. The paved 3.9-mile Timucuan Trail runs beside A1A and suits bikes and strollers, with overlooks of Spoonbill Pond from its northern boardwalk.
