About this adventure

The visitor center for the whole Timucuan Preserve sits at Fort Caroline in Arlington, which memorializes the short-lived 1560s French colony on the St. Johns River: stories of exploration, survival, religious disputes, territorial battles and first contact between American Indians and Europeans. A new Timucuan village exhibit highlights the Timucua-speaking people who lived along Northeast Florida's waterways. Families can add short outdoor stops at the Ribault Monument and Spanish Pond, both part of the memorial, or hike the nearby Theodore Roosevelt Area, a 600-acre tract of hardwood forest, wetlands and scrub with shady trails (open sunrise to sunset).
