About this adventure

A city-run oceanfront park on a peninsula off Heckscher Drive, known for beach driving and one of the largest seabird colonies on the East Coast in summer (laughing gulls, royal terns, brown pelicans and sandwich terns). A small nature center, staffed on weekend afternoons, has displays on the park's plants and animals and staff to answer children's questions. Reaching the ocean side means driving through very soft sand, so families without 4-wheel drive should park at Family Beach or the designated lots. Day visitors may not bring dogs. The park closes at times for high tides, capacity or unsafe conditions, and the north end is closed to vehicles during shorebird nesting.
