On the first Tuesday of each month, Independence Parks and Recreation and the Mid-Continent Public Library host a free children's storytime in the lobby of the Roger T. Sermon Community Center. The half-hour session from 9 to 9:30 a.m. is open to children of all ages but aimed especially at those five and under, with stories that build early literacy skills and a chance for Independence families to meet. No registration is needed — just show up — and parents must stay for storytime. It pairs well with Toddler Town indoor play, which runs in the same building on Tuesday mornings from 9:30.
