About this adventure

Desert Harvest is a themed set of gallery activities about food and plants that grow in the Las Vegas desert. In Toddler Town on Level 1, the youngest visitors make harvest-themed prints featuring foods that can be grown in the city. Upstairs in the Young at Art gallery, the activity draws on the work of Norm Schilling, a local horticulture expert who co-hosts NPR's Desert Bloom program and designs sustainable landscapes; children explore drought-tolerant plants and build a design for an edible home garden. At the Patents Pending Science Bench on Level 3, kids meet globemallow, a Nevada native whose orange blossoms feed bees and butterflies, learn how it survives in dry soil and take seeds home to try in their own garden. The stations run during regular museum hours on the listed days.
