About this adventure
An OC Parks Jr. Ranger quest at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, held the afternoon before Thanksgiving. Children earn a Laguna Coast Wilderness Park Jr. Ranger badge by investigating the wildlife corridors in Laguna Canyon — looking for signs that animals use them and working out why. The 90-minute outing meets at the Nix Nature Center and is rated an easy level on the Irvine Ranch Conservancy scale. It is designed for ages 8 to 12, though all ages are welcome, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian with them. Every participant, including children, must register in advance through the Laguna Canyon Foundation and sign a waiver on arrival. Bring plenty of water, closed-toed shoes and sun protection. Parking at the Nix Nature Center lot costs $3 per car and is limited, so carpool if you can. Hot weather or muddy trails can cancel the program.
