About this adventure

Fort Negley is the largest inland stone fortification built during the Civil War. A half-mile blacktop path circles the fort, with about a quarter mile of boardwalks inside and 20 interpretive panels; the visitors center has interactive touch-screen exhibits, the National Park Service Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Database and two 20-minute films on the fall of Nashville and the fort's history. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours and wear walking shoes. During Master Plan Phase 1 construction, the park trail and visitors center stay open but the historic fort structure at the top of the hill is closed, with reopening expected in the fall; parking is very limited. Leashed dogs are welcome; do not climb on the stonework.
