About this adventure
Union County's Great Pumpkin Sail is a family evening at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside: each family brings one pre-carved Jack-o-Lantern (with its lid, no more than eight pounds after carving), park staff place it on a float, and the glowing pumpkins drift across Echo Lake after dark. It is a calm, low-key way to end Halloween weekend with children of any age, and a good use for a pumpkin already carved for the 31st. The evening runs in three timed sessions of about 75 minutes each, so pick the earliest one for young children. Tickets are sold per family in advance only (space is limited): one ticket covers up to six family members, a larger family can add a second ticket, and there is a two-ticket limit. Dress for an evening by the water; the rain date is Monday, November 2.
