The Mighty String Demons, a young people's string ensemble directed by Sanchie Bobrow, present 'Welcome Solstice!', a concert celebrating the return of light after months of lengthening nights. Concert bassist Kazuo Nakamura and guitarist Nicole Azzarelli join as guest performers. The program includes classical, folk and Native American music depicting winter, with a short talk about the Lenape 'Big House' ceremony and poems about the solstice read between pieces. Audience members are invited to bring a winter poem of their own to read aloud. The hour-long concert starts at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 20, at the Staten Island Children's Museum.
