About this adventure

Historic Fort Reno sits on Route 66 just west of El Reno and is one of the oldest historic sites in western Oklahoma, a former frontier and cavalry post. The Visitor Center and Museum displays artifacts and photographs covering the 1888 Cheyenne and Arapaho Agency, the Buffalo Soldiers, letters from German prisoners of war held at the fort, Frederic Remington art inspired by his visit, the famous riderless horse Black Jack and historical dress. A separate US Cavalry Association Museum on the same grounds charges its own admission. It suits school-age children studying Oklahoma or military history; the site is on federal property, so it closes when the federal government does.
