A math-meets-nature day at Desert Botanical Garden, part of the national Math in Bloom collaboration of six botanical gardens. Stations around the garden show how the Fibonacci sequence appears in desert plants: find the spiral in agave rosettes and plant an agave pup to take home, count the ribs of a saguaro skeleton, test whether 'Fibonacci is everywhere' by examining real plants, build a paper flower with Fibonacci petal counts, see how saltbush and creosote arrange leaves for sunlight, spot patterns in desert animals, play with tangrams and tessellations, draw the sequence in chalk and follow a Fibonacci scavenger hunt. Runs 9 AM to 3 PM on Monday, November 23 (Fibonacci Day), and is included with admission. Great for school-age kids and homeschool families.
