Explore Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area north of Cave Creek after dark on a ranger-led 3-mile hike as the full moon rises over the mountains. The route passes towering saguaros, Native American rock art and riparian habitat, with frequent stops to talk about the area's history, plants and animals, so it doubles as a nature lesson for school-age children and teens who can handle a night walk. Bring water (none is available at the park, only portable toilets), protective clothing, supportive shoes, flashlights and a blacklight if you have one. Bring exact cash for the entry fee or a current Maricopa County Park pass. The group is limited to 25; register by calling the Nature Center. Registration closes November 27.
