New Castle opens the holiday season with one downtown evening that combines three things families usually have to visit separately: a new ice skating rink, the city's Christmas tree lighting and Lawrence County's Hometown Holiday Christmas Parade. The rink opens at 1 p.m. and stays open until 9 p.m., the tree is lit at 5:30 p.m., and the parade travels through downtown at 6 p.m. Live music from Mixed Tape Madness, food and drink, and local shops fill City Porch Park and the downtown streets around it. Come in the afternoon if the children want to skate before the crowds gather for the lighting, and dress for standing outside after dark.
