About this adventure

Founded in 1894, Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford is the 12th oldest zoo in the United States and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It keeps more than 240 species, notably Asian elephants, red pandas, cougars, eagles, seals, otters, South American primates and many waterfowl. Check the daily keeper chat schedule on arrival to hear caretakers talk about their animals. The Wildlife Carousel and Black Bear Express train are ADA certified but cannot run below 45 degrees; ride tokens are sold in the North Woods Gift Store. Two adaptive bicycles and a few wheelchairs are available at the entrance, and KultureCity sensory bags with noise-cancelling headphones and fidget tools can be borrowed at the gift shop. Parking is free. Children under 12 must be with an adult, and bikes, scooters, skates and pets (other than service animals) are not allowed.
