About this adventure

At the Cove to Lake trailhead in La Quinta, Friends of the Desert Mountains volunteer astronomers turn their telescopes on the full Moon for an evening of close-up looks at craters, peaks and ancient lava plains. With the faint galaxies hidden by moonlight, the Moon is the star of the night, which makes this a good introduction to telescopes for children and teens who have never looked through one. The session runs two hours in the open desert at the edge of the Cove neighborhood; check in at the hike table. RSVP is required and the event is cancelled for heavy cloud cover, wind or rain. Bring a liter of water and warm layers for the evening; dogs are not allowed near the telescopes. A $10 suggested donation per person is encouraged.
