About this adventure

A Halloween-season evening at Effie Yeaw Nature Center devoted to the preserve's night-active and often misunderstood animals. It opens with a 30-minute presentation on bats, insects, spiders, snakes and even scorpions, explaining what makes each one special and why these feared creatures matter to the ecosystem. A naturalist then leads a live demonstration with some of the center's own creepy-crawly animal ambassadors, giving families a close-up look from a few feet away. Afterwards the group heads outside under the rising moon to walk the Nature Study Area looking for the creatures they just learned about. The program runs from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.; bring a flashlight and warm layers for the walk. Tickets are sold in advance: child $20, adult member $40, adult non-member $55 (plus small service fees).
