About this adventure
An evening owl-finding hike from Effie Yeaw Nature Center led by naturalist and wildlife photographer Erik Johnson, who teaches participants how to locate Great Horned Owls along the American River Parkway. The route is about 3 miles round trip over uneven, semi-rough rocky terrain down along the river, timed for late afternoon into dusk when owls become active. It is open to ages 12 and older, so it suits nature-minded tweens and teens hiking with a parent. Bring a flashlight, binoculars, water and a light jacket. General admission was $30 (members register free with a newsletter code), but the organizer reports the event is sold out and registration is closed.
