About this adventure
The volunteer-run Placerville & Sacramento Valley Railroad takes families on a short open rail-motorcar ride from its Oak Avenue station in Folsom to Santa's Whistlestop at Willow Springs, a wooded stop beside Willow Creek in the middle of the city. At the Whistlestop children visit with Santa, and there are holiday activities and refreshments before the motorcar brings the family back to the station. Motorcars leave every 30 minutes and you can stay at the Whistlestop as long as you like; the railroad says the whole visit typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. The ride itself is short, which suits toddlers and preschoolers as well as older kids who like trains. Tickets are timed and sold online through Etix. The boarding point is a pop-up tent beside the tracks in the Folsom Family Fitness parking lot, near the corner of Oak Avenue Parkway and East Bidwell Street.
