About this adventure

The Pan African Cultural Community hosts its 17th annual Kwanzaa Market Festival on the East Side, a free afternoon that introduces families to Kwanzaa ahead of the holiday week (Dec. 26–Jan. 1). Children have their own space, the Watoto Children's Village, with creative, culturally centered activities designed for young people. Throughout the afternoon there is African drumming, dance, music, spoken word and storytelling, plus short talks on the history, symbols and traditions of Kwanzaa and its seven principles, the Nguzo Saba. Black-owned and African vendors sell food, crafts and gifts in the spirit of Ujamaa, cooperative economics. The festival is open to everyone, whether a family has celebrated Kwanzaa for years or is learning about it for the first time; organizers ask attendees to register (free) on the event page.
