- Texas Parks and Wildlife – Lost Maples State Natural Area
A slow-paced, ranger-led walk to the Pond at Lost Maples State Natural Area in Bandera County during the peak of fall-color season. The trail is about a mile each way (roughly 2.5 miles round trip from the day-use restroom), mostly flat and wide with a few mild inclines, but rocky, with shallow water crossings where you may get wet. It is not accessible for wheelchairs, strollers or wagons. Registration is required through the park's online form, and your spot is confirmed only by email; get a day pass or camping reservation first, since fall day passes usually sell out. Meet at the restroom at the day-use parking area at 11 am. Bring at least 64 oz of water, a hat, sunscreen, snacks and bug spray, and wear closed-toe hiking shoes.
