On New Year's Eve morning a Lost Maples ranger teaches visitors how to build a fire safely, so families can say they mastered a new skill in 2026. The 90-minute program is held outdoors in the overflow parking area starting at 11 am; bring plenty of water and a camp chair and dress for the weather. It suits older children and teens with a parent. It is free with park admission, and day passes are $6 for everyone 13 and older (free with a Texas State Parks Pass). The program may be canceled or changed due to weather.
