Over one December weekend Lost Maples State Natural Area sets up a self-guided story walk on the Maple Trail: families follow a short children's story about how nature handles winter as they hike. The loop is about three-quarters of a mile round trip, starting at the East Trail trailhead, up the stairs and left onto the Maple Trail, returning by the East Trail. It is easy but rocky, with small water crossings, some stairs and mild inclines; turn back before the end to avoid water crossings. It is not stroller or wheelchair accessible. Bring water and hiking essentials. Free with park admission.
