Instead of Black Friday shopping, Guadalupe River State Park invites families to spend the day after Thanksgiving outdoors. There is no set program; the park suggests hiking trails from easy riverside walks to harder Hill Country routes, fishing in the Guadalupe River (no fishing license is needed inside state parks), birdwatching, wildlife spotting for deer, foxes and wild turkeys, and picnicking. Children can pick up a nature scavenger hunt list at the Discovery Center or park headquarters and try to find every item on it. Regular entrance fees apply; reserving a day pass ahead is wise on a busy holiday.
