About this adventure

County rangers lead a naturalist hike up Volcan Mountain near Julian to look at fall foliage and talk about how the seasons change in San Diego County's mountains. The group moves at an observational pace, but the route is a summit hike rated moderate to strenuous, so it suits fit older children, teens and adults rather than small kids. Plan on about four hours. Bring plenty of water and sun protection; binoculars and field guides are encouraged. The hike is free, and bad weather may cancel it. Meet at the preserve entrance at Farmer Road and Wynola Road. Questions go to the ranger numbers on the listing.
