The public aquarium of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, on a hill above La Jolla Shores. Open daily at 9 a.m.; closing times vary by season and are posted on the daily schedule along with talks and feedings. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Walk-up tickets are $39.95 for adults (13+) and $34.95 for children (3-12); online tickets are $34.95 and $29.95 and the aquarium says you can save up to $20 on select dates and times by buying online. Children 2 and under are always free. Complimentary three-hour parking is available on site; buses and RVs are not permitted in the lot. A free digital guide is available through Bloomberg Connects and the gift shop opens at 9:30 a.m.
