The Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley is building a community ofrenda with the artists of Tierra Rituals, siblings Lidia Ruelo-Salazar and Erick Salazar, and invites visitors to contribute during two bilingual English–Spanish workshops. The altar honors ancestors, families, Indigenous knowledge keepers and community organizers, and at its center is an ancestral milpa, a traditional Indigenous farm plot, used to talk about growth, biodiversity and how no one survives alone. Families who take part can later see the finished altar at the Fruitvale Día de los Muertos festival in Oakland. Workshops run from 1 to 3 pm during regular museum hours.
