Presidio Tunnel Tops is a free national park site on top of the Presidio Parkway tunnels with Golden Gate Bridge views, picnic lawns and the Campfire Circle. For families the main draws are the Outpost, described by the Presidio Trust as San Francisco's biggest playground, a natural play area for kids aged 2–12 where children can explore the inside of a giant fallen tree, scale the Woodland Wall and play with water features; and the Field Station next door, a hands-on curiosity lab with nature specimens, historical artifacts, tools and maps for all ages whose content changes weekly and seasonally. The Outpost is free and open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. April to October and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. November to March. The Field Station is free and open Wednesdays through Fridays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Accessible restrooms are next to the Outpost at the Field Station building. Parties and group gatherings are not allowed at the Outpost; pets are not allowed inside the fenced play area.
