The Niles Canyon Railway's holiday Train of Lights is a 1.5-hour round trip through Niles Canyon at night aboard antique coaches and open cars decorated with holiday lights inside and out, with refreshments and music on board. Trains leave Niles Station in Fremont at 4:30 pm, when there is still light to see the canyon on the way out, and Sunol Depot at 7:30 pm after dark. The 2026 operating dates run from Nov. 20 to Dec. 30 (no trains on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day). Every passenger aged 3 and older needs a ticket; lap infants under 3 ride free, but strollers and car seats are not allowed on board because the vintage aisles are narrow. Note: the railway says all 2026 tickets are already sold out.
