About this adventure

Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve, run by the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, sits on the valley floor between south San José and Morgan Hill. Its 4-mile Arrowhead Loop Trail passes rare serpentine rock outcroppings, grassland and oak-and-bay forest, and it is a favorite birdwatching spot for red-tailed hawks, golden eagles and yellow-billed magpies; spring brings wildflowers across the meadows. Bikes ride the loop one way, with the direction rotating monthly, and riders can borrow a bike bell from the kiosk. Facilities are an accessible all-gender restroom and picnic tables, with no trash cans and no drinking water, so bring water and pack everything out. Dogs, pets and drones are not allowed anywhere on the preserve. Public-access improvement construction is underway.
