About this adventure

Sierra Vista sits high in the eastern foothills above Berryessa and Alum Rock, with sweeping views over the Santa Clara Valley and the greater Bay Area; it is a popular sunset spot. Nine miles of multi-use trails, including 6.7 miles of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, wind through oak woodland, rolling grassland and chaparral, and hawks and golden eagles are often overhead. Visitors must travel counterclockwise on the Aquila Trail. There are picnic tables and trash cans but no restrooms or drinking water. Dogs and drones are not allowed, and there is no access from Alum Rock Park via Alum Rock Falls Road. The 37-space lot closes when full and parking along Sierra Road is prohibited, so arrive at least an hour before sunset. A mountain lion was sighted here on August 27, 2026.
