From October 24 through December 5, 2026, volunteer Salmon Stewards are stationed along Pipers Creek in Carkeek Park on Wednesday afternoons and midday on weekends to help visitors spot returning chum salmon and answer questions about salmon behavior, biology and habitat. Pipers Creek, with tributaries Venema and Mohlendorph Creeks, is one of Seattle's few salmon-bearing streams; chum salmon can usually be viewed from mid-October to early December. The program is a collaboration of Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Parks & Recreation and the Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project.
