About this adventure

The Greater Hillsborough County Fair Association runs its eleven-day county fair at the fairgrounds in Dover, east of Brandon. It is an old-style agricultural fair: youth livestock shows, contests and the Harvest Queen and Princess pageants share the grounds with a Dreamland Amusements midway of carnival rides, from a Ferris wheel to a small roller coaster. Admission also covers every show in the grandstand, which this year means rodeo nights, a truck and tractor pull and a demolition derby, so families can plan an evening around one of them. Weekday gates open at 5 p.m., weekends and Veterans Day at noon; the carnival stays open an hour after the gates close. Children 5 and under get in free, K–12 students pay a reduced rate, and on Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) students with ID get in free when accompanied by an adult 21 or older. Ride armbands are sold separately, and the two Thursday carload nights replace individual tickets with one price per vehicle. Parking is free.
