Little Critters: Nature Play is a free drop-in program for children ages 0 to 5 and their families in the Bird House Classroom at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Sessions run most Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9:30 am, generally until 1:30 pm, and each week has a new nature theme — this fall and winter the themes include International Bat Week, finding fossils, gardens, National Take a Hike Day, colors, lichens and fungi, trees, mangroves, animal diets and World Waterfowl Day. Activities are designed for early learners, though older siblings are welcome. No pre-registration is needed; parents and guardians must stay with their children. Check the Smithsonian calendar for the weekly theme and any cancellations.
