While the Annual Regional Textile Showcase is on view at the Montpelier Historic Site & Museum in Laurel, families can try fiber arts for free. The Family and Youth Activities offer hands-on sampling of fiber-arts and making techniques alongside an exhibition of regional artists working in embroidery, rug hooking, quilting, felting, needlework and more. Walk-ins are welcome and there is no charge. The activities run from Thursday, November 5 to Saturday, December 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the museum is closed Mondays through Wednesdays and on Friday, December 25, so plan a Thursday-to-Sunday visit. Visitors can also vote in the showcase's People's Choice Awards. The museum is at 9650 Muirkirk Road; call 301-377-7817 before a visit with a group.
