About this adventure
Over Thanksgiving weekend the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra screens the holiday film Elf on a 40-foot HD screen in Symphony Hall while the full orchestra plays John Debney's score live, conducted by Jacob Joyce. The 2003 comedy, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Will Ferrell, follows Buddy, a human raised among Santa's elves at the North Pole, who travels to New York in full elf costume to find his real father. Seeing a familiar movie with a live orchestra is an easy introduction to symphonic music for school-age children, and the Sunday 3 p.m. performance fits younger families better than the Saturday 7 p.m. show. The film is rated PG, so parents of small children may want to preview it. Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster via the ASO's event page, and the Symphony Hall box office is at 1280 Peachtree Street in Midtown.
