About this adventure
Art in Cahoots is the City of Austin's free pop-up arts hour for preschoolers and the grown-up who brings them, run by the Cultural Arts Division's Dougherty Arts Center team at recreation centers around town. Each one-hour session sets out sensory, multi-disciplinary, process-based art activities that a child and caregiver work on together, so the focus is on exploring materials rather than producing a finished craft. The city describes it as a way for prekindergarten-age children to build social-emotional skills and get used to a classroom setting while staying alongside a trusted adult. Activities change from month to month. Children must be at least 2½ years (30 months) old, and every child attends with a caregiver. Space is limited, so the city recommends reserving a free spot on Eventbrite in advance; drop-ins are accepted at the door only if there is room. ADA modifications and language interpreters can be requested through the numbers on the event page, ideally at least five days ahead.
