The Round Rock Police Department's new holiday food drive, replacing the old Fill the Cop Car event, gathers donations for the Round Rock Area Serving Center. Families bring non-perishable food to Centennial Plaza and spend the morning with neighbours and officers: the city lists music, yard games and activities for all ages, including cornhole, sack races, musical chairs and flag football. At noon everyone can join the Hike for Hunger, a one-mile walk from Centennial Plaza to the Serving Center to deliver the collected food. Groups, classes and scout troops are encouraged to collect in the weeks before and bring their haul on the day. A good first service project for school-age kids.
