The Maryland Zoo's official race sends runners and walkers on a 5K course through parts of the zoo in Druid Hill Park. This year each participant joins a species team — penguin, chimpanzee, Panamanian golden frog or elephant — and races to help their species cross the finish line first. Registration includes an animal-inspired team shirt, post-race drinks and snacks, and all-day zoo admission from 10 am to 4 pm, so families can stay and visit the animals after the race. Gates and on-site registration open at 6:30 am, the 5K starts at 8 am, and awards, including a costume contest with a children's category, follow at the end. Spectator tickets include early entry to watch runners finish plus all-day admission. Dressing as your favorite animal is encouraged; pets are not allowed and there is no bag check. Packet pick-up is Friday, November 13, noon to 4 pm at the Main Gate.
