Each December the Great House at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate in Ipswich is decorated for Christmas, and this year's rooms take their inspiration from the masterworks of Monet, Van Gogh, Botticelli, Kahlo and other favourite artists. Families go through the mansion at their own pace, with interpreters stationed in the rooms to answer questions, and children can try the Crane holiday eye-spy hunt. Freshly baked cookies and hot chocolate are served, and the Castle Hill Gift Shop is open. Hours are Fridays December 4, 11 and 18 from 4 to 7pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 5pm, and school vacation week December 28-30 from 10am to 5pm. Entry is timed and advance reservations are strongly recommended. Sensory-friendly hours (reduced capacity, no music, no flickering lights) run 10-11:30am on Saturdays December 5 and 12. The Grand Stair has 30 steps and there is no elevator; a digital display shows the second-floor rooms for guests who cannot climb.
