City Ballet of Boston's Urban Nutcracker, founder Anthony Williams' Boston-set retelling of the holiday classic, first produced in 2001, returns to the Boch Center Shubert Theatre in the Theatre District for ten performances over two December weekends. Local young dancers rehearse from September through Thanksgiving before moving into the theater in December, and the show is a long-running Boston family holiday tradition built around diversity through dance. It runs about two hours including a 20-minute intermission. Friday, December 18 is billed as an LGBTQ+ performance. All children from infants to 18 must have a ticket under Massachusetts law, so count lap babies when you buy. Shows usually sell out, sometimes by whole sections, so buy in advance through the Boch Center box office, the official seller, online, by phone or in person, and avoid resale sites selling overpriced or fraudulent tickets.
