Northbrook Park District

The Northbrook Park District's Skating School teaches group figure-skating lessons at the Northbrook Sports Center using the official Learn to Skate USA curriculum. Levels start with a Toddler class (sitting and standing in skates, marching, gliding on two feet), then Snowplow Sam 1–4 for ages 4 through 6, which builds balance, swizzles and snowplow stops through games, and Basic Skills 1–6 for ages 7 through 12, which add backward skating, crossovers, edges and turns before Pre Free Skate. Children are ready when they can stand in skates without support and are comfortable leaving their parents. New skaters get an off-ice orientation on fit, lacing, clothing and safety helmets, and an email before the first class about skate rentals. One makeup class is allowed per session; skaters placed in the wrong level are moved if space allows.
