About this adventure
DeKalb Park District's free post-Halloween pumpkin send-off at the Hopkins Park sled hill. Families bring their carved pumpkins to race them down the hill in a pumpkin-roll competition, then smash them to bits by slingshot launch or at smash-and-bash stations. All the pieces are composted to feed plants next spring. Crafts and games round out the morning, and local food trucks sell treats. Remove candles and glow sticks first; painted pumpkins cannot be composted and are not allowed. Sign up on site for the smashing competitions by 11:15 a.m. sharp. Free for all ages.
