About this adventure
Symphonic Superheroes is the first Chicago Symphony Orchestra Family Matinee of the 2026–27 season, on Saturday, November 21, in historic Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center. Conductor Alastair Willis, members of the CSO and a trio of silly storytellers show how each instrument of the orchestra uses its own musical powers to change moods, travel to other times and places and accomplish great feats, whether taking a solo or joining forces with the whole orchestra. The program includes Rossini's William Tell Overture finale, Haydn's Surprise Symphony andante, Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Swans, the Cantina Band from Star Wars, the Thunder and Lightning Polka and Offenbach's Can-Can. The CSO says its Family Matinees are hour-long performances for families with children ages 5 to 12, often with actors, dancers and multimedia. Tickets start at $25 including fees; families who subscribe to three or more CSO for Kids concerts save up to 33 percent.
