About this adventure

Lake County Parks (Indiana) and the volunteer astronomers of the Conway Astronomical Society open the Conway Observatory at the Calumet Astronomy Center, just south of Buckley Homestead near Lowell, for a free evening of stargazing. Visitors look through telescopes, learn about objects visible in the night sky and ask questions at their own pace; this month's tour runs from the rings of Saturn out to the distant Andromeda Galaxy, with volunteers explaining the evening's sights. The open house is billed as relaxed and family-friendly for longtime stargazers and the simply curious alike, and visitors may come and go any time during the four-hour window. Viewing depends on the sky, so the parks department asks visitors to check the society's website, casonline.org, for weather updates before setting out.
