Celebrate the longest night of the year outdoors on Sunday, December 20, from 4:45 to 6 p.m. at Hickory Creek Preserve's LaPorte Road Access in Mokena. A naturalist explains the science of the season, shares winter solstice traditions and leads a walk through the woods listening for animals out in the cold. Afterward, everyone warms up by the fire with a roasted marshmallow. Free, all ages; register by December 18.
