About this adventure

Ahead of Veterans Day, the Detroit Historical Museum sets aside a Sunday afternoon to honor people who have served. Western International High School cadets post and retire the colors, museum educators and Detroit students lead a Veterans Day presentation, and the Reserve Officers Association of Michigan runs a veterans oral history workshop. Veterans are invited to bring photos, medals or uniforms and share their stories with students and guests, which makes it a good chance for school-age children and teens to hear history first-hand from veterans in their own family or community. Registration is online and the ticket includes museum admission, so families can explore the galleries afterward. Veterans, active military, first responders, members and children 5 and under are free; adults are $15 and children ages 6 to 12 are $8.
