Detroit's official start to the holiday season: the 23rd annual lighting of Detroit's Christmas Tree in Campus Martius Park, presented by the DTE Foundation and produced by the Downtown Detroit Partnership. The free evening runs from 4 to 9 p.m. with music from national and local performers, figure-skating shows on The Rink at Campus Martius, food trucks and lighting displays throughout downtown. The tree itself arrives in the park on Nov. 4. Expect very large crowds; plan on transit or early parking, and dress for standing outdoors. The DDP says more program details will be announced closer to the date.
