About this adventure
The Mighty Gobbler is a Thanksgiving-morning race in Troy hosted by Lutheran Church of the Master, with two distances: a 1 mile fun run/walk that starts at 8:30 a.m. and a 5K that follows at 9 a.m. The shorter run/walk is the one to pick with children who can cover a mile on foot beside a parent, while older kids and adults who want a timed race can stay for the 5K. Both start in the parking lot in front of 3290 W. Big Beaver Road, and the course runs through neighborhoods and commercial streets on a mix of roads and sidewalks. The organizers say the 5K is the only USATF-certified 5K course in Michigan on Thanksgiving Day, and every participant gets a T-shirt and an award. Families can bring canned goods that are not past their expiration date: each can earns a raffle ticket and goes to Troy People Concerned, and race proceeds this year support Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers and Micah 6 Community. Online registration closes at midnight on Tuesday, November 24; packets can be picked up on Wednesday evening at the church on Coolidge Highway or from 7:30 a.m. on race morning, when in-person sign-ups are also taken.
