The 44th annual Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot kicks off Thanksgiving morning in downtown Detroit as the 'parade before the parade,' running ahead of America's Thanksgiving Parade. Thousands of participants dress in costumes and run past one of the biggest spectator crowds in Michigan. Families have three distances to choose from: the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Mashed Potato Mile and the 10K both start at 7:30 a.m., the mile on Atwater behind Huntington Place and the 10K at Griswold and Fort Street, and the 5K Stuffing Strut starts at 8:30 a.m. at Griswold and Fort. All races finish on Atwater next to the Riverwalk. Jogging strollers are allowed; pets and bikes are not. Advance packet pickup runs November 14–21, the expo at Huntington Place, Hall E, is open on November 25 from noon to 7:00 p.m., and packets are also available Thanksgiving morning from 6:00 a.m. Current registration is $35 for the mile and $55 for the 5K or 10K, each including a long-sleeve tech shirt, finisher medal and bib.
