About this adventure
Wild Michigan is a monthly nature series at the Lake St. Clair Metropark Nature Center for families with kids, and the session on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend is about turkeys and their relatives. Each program pairs a classroom-style presentation with time outdoors, looking at Michigan's animals, plants, seasons, habitats and history, and this one includes a walk of about three quarters of a mile on flat, compacted gravel with plenty of interactive participation. Every participant receives a Wild Michigan sticker, a different design each month, so children who come back can build a collection. The program is for ages 7 and up, and each child needs a registered adult with them. It makes a 90-minute outing for the last weekend day of the Thanksgiving break. Pre-registration closes at 4 p.m. the day before; families who need an accommodation are asked to contact the nature center at least two weeks ahead.
